SHOE BOXES

Every year, as part of the District initiative, Waterlooville Rotary Club organises a 'shoe box appeal', going round many of the local schools collecting shoe boxes to send to needy children abroad. Some years it is Africa, and this year it is for Eastern European countries. In 2009 we collected almost 700 boxes to be opened at Christmas time by very grateful children.

The children fill the shoe boxes with gifts for boys and girls of all ages, and generously provide small toys, crayons,  writing paper, clothing, toileteries and often personal greetings cards.

This is another exercise which we love doing (almost as much as the children!) because it is the essence of what Rotary is all about.

Just some of the 700 or so children who collected boxes for the children abroad.......

The Rotary crowd, who look like they're enjoying themselves too much to be working............

What a lot we've got.............

 Now we're getting sorted........

And now they're on their way out and on to the lorries..........the boxes that is, not the old fogeys.
